Rep Peter King of Long Island and Steve Perace of New Mexico have sponsored a amendment to legislation dealing with the 9-11 Committee recommendations that protect citizens from lawsuits for turning in possible terrorists.
The ammendment was prompted by the handful of Imans who boarded a plane in Minneapolis and starting acting like, well, a bunch of loud-mouthed jihadists. They are suing both the airline and one person who expressed concern for their behavior.
But the Democrats, ever beholden to the American Trail Lawyers Association are attempted to take the provision out.
Here’s more from Michelle Malkin.
Ed Morrissey writing at Heading Right sums it this way:
In any case, the Democrats cannot have it both ways. They cannot pretend to take homeland security seriously while leaving tipsters unprotected. People will not provide the kind of critical information that could defend against a terrorist attack if they have to hire a lawyer every time they do. It’s precisely this kind of disincentive, applied to law enforcement and intelligence, that created the walls that led to the failures resulting in the 9/11 attack. If we want Americans to man the front lines in this manner, we have to protect them from nuisance lawsuits and petty intimidations.
