METS: Metsblog Reports Rockies Ask for Jon Niese in Exchange for Brian Fuentes

I agree with Cerrone’s commentary here:

According to the Denver Post, the Rockies have asked the Mets for LHP Jon Niese in a deal for LHP Brian Fuentes.

Similarly, the Rockies have asked the Red Sox for RHP Clay Buchholz, and the Yankees for RHP Ian Kennedy.

…to me, the news here is that the Rockies put niese on the same level as buccholz and kennedy, which is good to hear…

…by the way, from what i can gather, these are not hard-and-fast offers, but are a general sense from the Rockies to each time on what fuentes could cost, assuming each team is interested…

…i still believe fuentes will end up on the Rays or Yankees, though the Marlins have reportedly expressed serious interest as well…

As scouts are looking at Niese, its clear the Mets are willing to depart with him in a trade. How much further will Omar Minaya go in an offer?

One week is left before the deadline and today’s crucial win puts the Mets back in first. So after what seemed to be an overwhelming loss Monday, the club responded decisively. Minaya has consistantly displayed a willingness to help his club. He apparently was willing to give the Red Sox everything they wanted for Manny Ramirez in 2006. Would he do the same with the Rockies then to get both Fuentes and Matt Holiday?
