Hoping Obama’s sense of class and dignity leaves the uberleft of his party behind

Predictably some member of the dem congressional caucus found a way to get code pink near the front of the ceremony today. They were there to mock and taunt president Bush while his daughters and President Obama’s daughters could witness. Stay classy dems. They’re yours.

A thought of real national growth

I’m prayerful the Obama presidency means something we can all be thankful for…and that is it will make previous role models for African American kids less valid. Its no longer rap stars or athletes or hate mongering ministers. Its an accomplished and classy couple who are very good parents. As a conservative republican and teacher I see just how crucial this may be for so many youth today. To his credit the president has made an attempt to distance from hateful rhetoric – and I’m sure that he and his staff hope folks like me won’t bring up Joe Lowery’s performance today. And perhaps it will be mark a time when african americans turn their political gaze to a broader spectrum of political views and one which more refelects their values of family and self determination.

May God bless you, President Obama

Out new President invoked “God” seven times in his inagural sppech today. May he have his blessings.

We were told today that we could keep our classroom televisions on today for this historic day and I did so. It is no small wonder the 38 peaceful transitions of power our wonderous nation has gone through. And I used it.

They’d not done well on their final and I used this special day as a motoivational tool. I spoke of the amazing success story of Obama, but also of my own humble little success story of making it to the big leagues as a trainer.

I told them its all about what you envision for themselves and to fill their thoughts with postive things. Naturally they groaned when I gave them a writing prompt, but they did it. For many, it was really the first time they’d ever been asked to think of such things. So on this day of unique renewal, it really was easy to understand what hope really can feel like.

Schumer, Leahy shoving Holder through in spite of his questionable record at Justice

This exchange from Jake Tapper’s blog:

SESSIONS: But do you personally now — I know the president has justified it…

LEAHY: Senator…

SESSIONS: Do you personally have an opinion after all of this whether it was right or wrong?

HOLDER: I think that given all that I have described that what the president did was reasonable.

**

SCHUMER: My colleagues have mentioned them already. I’m not a fan of either the Marc Rich pardon or the FALN. I disagree with your ultimate analysis on FALN — and on Marc Rich, I guess, although you certainly said that was a mistake. I was a critic then, and I’m a critic now. The essential point, though, is that many who have criticized your role in those pardons — Democrat and Republican alike — recognize your entire career and vigorously support your nomination: Jim Comey, Louis Freeh, the Fraternal Order of Police.

So Schumer, who had such a problem with Al Gonzalez’ actions at state and called for his ouster, says that he didn’t like Holder’s handling on the Rich and FALN pardons. But its ok against his other body of work.

H.Y.P.O.C.R.I.C.Y.

Schumer clearly has the interest of his own party before that of integrity at Justice. At least some REP senators seem to be leaning against his confirmation.

The spirit of Ground Hero returned today as Harbor Heroes

His Eminence Edward Cardinal Egan famously coined the sacred place where so many selflessly gave their own lives to save others on September 11, 2001 “Ground Hero”. Today that spirit returned to New York when a US Airway Airbus plunged into the Hudson River seconds after take-off. Rescue workers from organizations too numerous to mention responded to the freezing river to save all of the nearly 160 passengers and crew.

The evil that hates will never realize how we who disagree so much on so many things aggree that the greatest love we share is for each other.

Republican Senators Rolling Over Again for Dems

Yes, actually. With only one senator -David Vetter of Louisiana and no stranger to ethical problems himself – voting against the a continuation of the Clinton Grifters are Us Show, its clear Republican senators have no courage. Writing in AT, John Robin Rice agrees:

I need only say the names of John Tower, Clarence Thomas and Robert Bork to remind people of the unfair and insipid gauntlet that the Democrats have used on Republican nominees. There is a longer list of really fine American men and women who have not been allowed their hearings or who have declined nomination because they did not want to weather the fire storm that would be brought upon themselves and their families.

Secretary of State nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton is now before the Senate for her nomination. If there was ever a clear conflict of interest for a nominee for this job, she is it. Her husband, President Bill Clinton sold his presidency and its power for his own personal gain. It has long been known that Senator Clinton intervened at least six times with her power on issues directly affecting companies and others that later contributed to her husband’s foundation. That’s what we already know. What else don’t we know? This makes the Blagojevich scandal look like child’s play. The fact that a former president and a sitting US Senator are involved in a “pay for play” scheme casts a much larger shadow than that of a state governor. The landscape for Ms. Clinton to act outside the interests of the United States is way too obvious and it is here that the Republicans in the senate should make their stand. If this is not the proverbial “line in the sand” then there never will be one

The reluctancy of Republican senators to stand up aganist flawed and ethically challenged nominees for President-elect Obama’s cabinet will not serve our nation well. One party bullying the other into lap dog status does not even rise to the level of loyal opposition. The confirmations of Eric Holder and Eric Geithner may be a fait accompli but rigorous questioning along with “no” votes are in order.

Is Rush Limbaugh having dinner tonight with Obama?

Talk about guess who’s coming to dinner.

This from the very efficient Allahpundit at HotAir:

Sounds nutty, I know, but Ambinder breaks news that The One’s dining with “conservative opinion leaders” in Maryland, evidently at George Will’s house. Among the attendees: Bill Kristol, David Brooks, and … anyone else?
Coincidentally, I got an e-mail from a reader shortly after noon noting that Limbaugh had a surprise guest host today who spent the beginning of the show dropping hints that Rush had been called away to urgent business in D.C. and that it might have to do with something he said yesterday about giving Obama advice. I ignored it — but now they’re dropping hints on the EIB homepage, too.
Is this happening? The One’s charm offensive is actually going to beat a path

So is Obama breaking bread with the enemy? Curious time are these transitions.

METS: With Lowe gone….to a divison rival nonetheless

…..Minaya is in a must sign situation with Oliver Perez. the Mets clearly low balled Lowe as they may not have wanted him, or may not have wanted to commit to an older player again. And who can blame them with the cash down the toilet work of Moises Alou and Orlando Hernandez. A player should never be considered old coming off a good year, but 4 years would have taken Lowe to around 40 years of age. Maybe thats why the Mets would not go beyond three years for Lowe, but they might with a younger Perez.

For a wide variety of reasons, the Mets cannot be outbid for Perez. If they do, it sends a meassage that the Wilpons are in trouble financially and the Mets are unable to compete as a big market club on its way into a new stadium.

Obama still stonewalling Chicago reporters in pressers

Via Newsbusters:

According to Sun-Times columnist and long-time Chicago journalist, Carol Marin, journalists at Barack Obama news conferences have come to realize that Obama has pre-picked those journalists whom he will allow to ask him questions at the conference and many of them now “don’t even bother raising” their hands to be called upon.

One wonders why journalists are allowing this corralling of the press? Would they have allowed George W. Bush to pre-pick journalists like that? Would they meekly sit by and allow themselves to be systematically ignored, their freedom to ask questions silenced by any Republican? Would journalists so eagerly vie with one another for the favor of Bush like they are Obama’s?

One thing’s consistent from the campaign in that Obama only takes questions from reporters who are in the tank. Its called propoganda boys and girls and it what subversive countries do.

Its still remarkable foreshadowing of things to come if a President cannot take questions from his hometown paper. Its not good any time you deliberately attempt to mislead the American people. good thing Obama and the DEMS have all those psycophants on board in the MSM.

METS: What Minaya’s instructions about payroll?

Yesterday’s signing of Tim Redding will make even more sense if Mets GM Omar Minaya signs another starter. For a contending team, Redding can be considered no more that a back of the rotation asset.

So what’s next? It appears that the Mets have not improved their offer to Derek Lowe, and the loss of John Smoltz may force the Braves into negotiations for Lowe. Or so hopes Scott Boras as he also represents Oliver Perez.

If reports are accurate that Minaya perfers Perez, the acquisition of Lowe by the Braves would force the Mets to not be outbid for Perez.

Word that the Mets won’t be going any further for a starter, however, would not good news for Met fans. It makes the signing of Redding a cost saving move and the only starter they bring in. This could signal that Jack Madoff caused more problems for the Wilpons than they’d care to admit.

True, the Mets spent their money this off season in their bullpen with the acquisition of Francisco Ronriguez and JJ Putz. But alot of money came off the books, too. Its why an innings eater like Lowe makes so much sense.

The Mets need another starter if they are to contend this season.
