Democrat Allen Boyd in trouble over cap and tax

Democrat Congressman Allen Boyd will have problems with Florida Panhandle voters over his yes vote on cap and trade. Conservative Ponderment has more.

Why Boyd who represents a very conservative district would support Nancy Pelosi’s bill is a mystery. Boyd is the leader of the Democrat Bliue Dog conference. Perhaps he was strong armed by Pelosi as he needs funding. His son was arrested last year on immigration smuggling charges. Panhandle voters won’t tolerate a Democrat more loyal to Nancy Pelosi than they are to their interests.

Obama client Zeleya moving cocaine for Chavez?

This AP story indicates that the DEA knows this. Here’s more:

BOGOTA (AP) — The regime that ousted Manuel Zelaya in Honduras claimed Tuesday that the deposed president allowed tons of cocaine to be flown into the Central American country on its way to the United States.

“Every night, three or four Venezuelan-registered planes land without the permission of appropriate authorities and bring thousands of pounds … and packages of money that are the fruit of drug trafficking,” its foreign minister, Enrique Ortez, told CNN en Espanol.

“We have proof of all of this. Neighboring governments have it. The DEA has it,” he added.

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman Rusty Payne in Washington said he could neither confirm nor deny a DEA investigation.

Zelaya was traveling from New York to Washington and could not immediately be reached to respond to the allegations.

Honduras and other Central American nations have become major transshipment points in recent years for Colombian cocaine, particularly as Mexico’s government cracks down on cartels.

The drugs arrive in Honduras on non-commercial aircraft from Venezuela and increasingly in speedboats from Colombia, according to the Key West, Florida-based Joint Interagency Task Force-South, which coordinates drug interdiction in region.

In its most recent report on the illicit narcotics trade, the U.S. State Department said in February of Honduras that “official corruption continues to be an impediment to effective law enforcement and there are press reports of drug trafficking and associated criminal activity among current and former government and military officials.”

The report did not name names.

Drug-related violence appears to be up in Honduras.

Homicides surged 25 percent from some 4,400 in 2007 to more than 7,000 in 2008 while more than 1,600 people were killed execution-style, suggesting drug gang involvement, according to the Central American Violence Observatory.

In October, Zelaya proposed legalizing drug use as a way of reducing the violence, and doubling the country’s police force, which reached 13,500 last year, up from 7,000 in 2005, according to the State Department report.

The amatuers at the WH have got to be scrambling now. With a US sponsored UN resoultion already siding with Zeleya, Chavez, Obama and Castro, a whole bunch of folks are going to have egg on their face if these reports are true.

UPDATE: Naturally the 9-11 truther Alex Jones says that it was the CIA that toppled Zeleya… protect the drugt trade…..Hey, Gibbsie, Rham….get Leon on the phone. Lets see if we can use this angle to get out of this jam.

Obama, Clinton sides with leftist thug in Honduras and against the country’s people, laws and constitution

From Glen Garvin writing in the Miami Herald:

For weeks, Zelaya — an erratic leftist who styles himself after his good pal Hugo Chávez of Venezuela — has been engaged in a naked and illegal power grab, trying to rewrite the Honduran constitution to allow him to run for reelection in November.

First Zelaya scheduled a national vote on a constitutional convention. After the Honduran supreme court ruled that only the country’s congress could call such an election, Zelaya ordered the army to help him stage it anyway. (It would be ”non-binding,” he said.) When the head of the armed forces, acting on orders from the supreme court, refused, Zelaya fired him, then led a mob to break into a military base where the ballots were stored.

His actions have been repudiated by the country’s supreme court, its congress, its attorney-general, its chief human-rights advocate, all its major churches, its main business association, his own political party (which recently began debating an inquiry into Zelaya’s sanity) and most Hondurans: Recent polls have shown his approval rating down below 30 percent.

In fact, about the only people who didn’t condemn Zelaya’s political gangsterism were the foreign leaders and diplomats who now primly lecture Hondurans about the importance of constitutional law. They’re also strangely silent about the vicious stream of threats against Honduras spewing from Chávez since Zelaya was deposed.

Warning that he’s already put his military on alert, Chávez on Monday flat-out threatened war against Honduras if Roberto Micheletti, named by the country’s congress as interim president until elections in November, takes office.

”If they swear him in we’ll overthrow him,” Chávez blustered. “Mark my words. Thugetti — as I’m going to refer to him from now on — you better pack your bags, because you’re either going to jail or you’re going into exile.”

So why are Obama and Clinton siding with Chavez and a man who seeks to circumvent his own country’s constitution? Either of two possible reasons are unacceptable to America and freedom loving peoples of ther world. One, they are incompetant and just don’t know what they are doing. Two, they themselves side with enemies of American and its allies in freedom.

Is this what Democrats mean by smart foreign policy?

Why Obama is on the wrong side on Honduras

Jonah Goldberg of NRO received the following letter from a Honduran:

I have written you several times over the years. We are “friends” on Facebook and I loved Liberal Fascism.

I was born in Honduras and my maternal relatives (aunts, uncles, cousins) all live there.

The country is bewildered that the world, especially the United States, is not on their side. Zelaya was confident of his plans to convert Honduras into a Venezuelan satellite. The Honduran people are proud of their constitution and are proud to have a functioning democratic system. Zelaya was replaced by a member of his own party who vows to see that this November’s presidential election takes place. What happened was not a “coup” but a bipartisan effort to save the nation.

It is heartbreaking for me to see President Obama throw Honduras under the bus. He did not speak out when Zelaya was attempting to stage a sham “constitutional referendum” with ballots printed in Venezuela.

My mother immigrated from Honduras and is a registered Republican because she remembers how the GOP stood up to communists when her countrymen were afraid of Fidel Castro. Now, Hugo Chavez is threatening to invade her beloved homeland and an American president is not standing up for a free and democratic Honduras.

Bewildered NR devotee,

The Obama stance that sides with the enemies of American in Bolivia, Cuba and Venezuela has been questionable at best. He’s seemed uninformed. Talk about being tested and failing. And, oh yes, ruining our standing on the world stage.

Another despicable leftist attack on Sarah Palin is refuted by folks who were actually there

Demleftdom easily personalizes issues and calls people names with the treatment of Sarah Palin continuing to demonstrate a sickness of character and itellectual capabilities. Its hard to find worthy any argument of Andrew Sullivan after following his grotesque diatribes on Palin. Sullivan and his sad collegues comfortably utter untruths and pass along lurid gossip as journalism. Todd Purdum’s Vanity Fair profile of Palin is another example. Today, members of the McCain campaign who worked closely with Palin went of record in refuting Purdum’s piece which relied on those who would not go on record.

There are indeed members of the McCain campaign who are throwing mud at Palin as evidenced by Fox News’ Carl Cameron reporting as much – without attributing his story to anyone. The vicious nature of those who engage in such discourse must be called out – and yes labeled accordingly. They can no longer be ignored.

Health Care: Obsessing the cost while ignoring the value

From Thomas Sowell:

Let’s start at square one. Why is there alarm about American medical care? The most usual reason given is because its cost is high and rising.

That is certainly true. We were not spending nearly as much on high-tech medical procedures in the past because there were not nearly as many of them, and we were not spending anything at all on some of the new pharmaceutical drugs because they didn’t exist.

This general pattern is not peculiar to medical care. Cars didn’t cost nearly as much in the past, when they didn’t have air-conditioning, power steering and high-tech safety features. Homes were cheaper when they were smaller, had fewer bathrooms and lacked such conveniences as built-in microwave ovens.

We would like to have all these things without the rising costs that come with them. But only with medical care is such wishful thinking taken seriously, with government regarded as a sort of fairy godmother who will give us the benefits without the costs.

Leave it to an economist to put it in perspective. Obama and the Democrats socialization of medicine will eliminate the health care that we have become accustomed to. Even your if you desire to pay the price will be hindered as its availablility will not be the same. You are going to have to tell your congressmen not to do this. Those that voted for cap and tax will likely be voting to take over your health care.

Our history of not seeing evil clearly……we’re doing it again in Iran

Michael Ledeen posted this yesterday in NRO. Ledeen makes the clear parallel to Nazi Germany while outlining just how evil the Iranian regime is:

The brutality in Iran today foreshadows what the mullahs intend for us. It is what the world will look like if they prevail. Iran’s Middle East neighbors know this, and dread it (with the exception of Syria, which is playing Mussolini’s Italy to Khamenei’s Nazi Germany). Yet every American president from Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama has convinced himself that we can reach a workable, long-term modus vivendi with the Islamic Republic. They refused to see the mullahs’ Iran for what it is: a ruthless and determined enemy, at war with the United States.

The Iranian president is finding himself safe again and is calling out the American president in a way that should indicate there is no reason to seek accomodations with this barbaric regime and its allies Hamas and Hezbollah.

The mullahs’ war is unrelentingly and barbarically waged. When they organize demonstrations of hatred against the United States, and lead chants of “death to America,” they mean exactly that. It is not a slogan playing to a domestic audience (we have seen in recent days that the regime is enormously unpopular), but a statement of intent. They aim to kill us, humiliate us, and eventually dominate us. Just listen to President Ahmadinejad’s words to President Obama last Saturday:

You should know that if you continue (to criticize the repression) the response of the Iranian nation will be strong. . . . The response of the Iranian nation will be crushing. The response will cause remorse.

Such language is of a piece with stories alleging that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has ordered an all-out attack on American, British, French, and German targets wherever possible.

Meanwhile, the same forces deployed against us and our allies have taken to the streets to attack freedom-seeking Iranians. The same Revolutionary Guards who operate in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the usual foreign thugs and proxies (Der Spiegel reported five-thousand Hezbollah “fighters” had been sent into the streets of Tehran, and there are many other stories of sadistic Arabic speakers all over the country) have been beating, axing, shooting, stabbing, gassing, and clubbing unarmed peaceful protesters. As of late last week, Evin Prison in Tehran, long the regime’s Bastille, had run out of space for arrested citizens.

Ledeed offers some hope that the Iranian people still are fighting back but to be sure, American will one day be forced to deal with the regime. That day approaches.
