WH counsel Geg Craig, who defended President Bill Clinton in his Senate impeachment trail, knows something about taking on GOP senators. So when faced with a request for additional documents regarding Judge Sonya Sotomayor’s troubling ties to extremist groups, he lectured Senator Jeff Sessions they were “irrelevant” while denying the request.
Too bad, Greg. It’s stonewalling and you’ll not be able to tell the Senate no. Telling a former US attorney somethings irrelevant is not a good idea, but Craig has to carry the water here. Obama really wants a leftward leaning justice to counter balance against Bush nominees John Roberts and Sam Alito.
The votes are there for the Sotomayor nomination if Dems on Judicial stay together. But as more negative revelations and judicial overreaches that come out about Sotomayor, the more difficult it will be to keep all of them together. The Ricci ruling still will not go down well with more facts about Sotomayor’s associations that are well outside what Americans feel.
