The kids I teach keep me on the peripheral of pop culture, so I always watch shows like the Grammy’s. After seeing a video, I became intrigued by the rise of Lady Gaga to stardom. Like all celebrities, tabloids and gossip thrive on the most shocking of topics. In Lady Gaga’s case, it has been her sexuality. Her performance at the Grammy’s was dramatic and her duet with Elton John on dueling piano’s will be prove historic.

Lurid fascination remains, but will begin to be put to rest by her interview late last month before the Grammy’s with iconic television journalist Barbara Walters. Appearing without any of her trademark masks or make-up, Lady Gaga played it straight with Walters.

She showed her youth. Only 23. Remarkably reflective on her own life, she displayed an amazing vulnerability in her candor. She told the story of her relinking with her family. Especially in her realtionship with her father with whom she was at one time estranged. To paraphrase what a middle aged observer might say, she was classy. And clearly a lovely and accomplished young woman.

it will be fascinating to follow this gifted and talented artist’s career.
