Last season David Wright was on his way to MVP considerations as the Mets took second place in the National League East and he managed to produce a .325-30-107 season. The player was bound to become the Triple Crown threat that the Mets needed. He was going to rescue New York from the futility of high priced players like Carlos Delgado and Moises Alou.

That year Carlos Beltran took pressure off him with his own 33 home run and 112 RBI season. The dip in the team’s record from 97-65 in 2006 to 88-74 was placed solely on the loss of Pedro Martinez for the year. This year, though, the quiet bats from the rest of the lineup have put incredible pressure on the hyped third baseman to perform. His numbers have taken a hit. They put him on track bat .275, hit 26 home runs, and drive in 123 runs.

Still his numbers are quite good for somebody who has to feel the pressure of all the Mets fans in New York looking to him for hope at Shea Stadium. I can not imagine the pressure of being the face of a franchise trying to recover from a disastrous by a team picked to replace the Atlanta Braves on the mantle in the NL East.

He should still get the nod for the All Star at the cross town Yankee Stadium. He is a young start in Major League Baseball and is unfortunately being placed in a position to fail in a team sport that needs more than one hitter of the nine in the lineup to deliver wins and take a club to the World Series.
