While Obama remains historically timid and his standing July 4 invitation to the savage Iranian regime still open, Betsy Newmark makes some suggestions on ways to help the freedom seeking Iranians:

Here is an opportunity for the west to help out. First, outlets such as Radio Farda can be used to help spread the word because it is not likely that the Supreme Leader will leave Mousavi’s website alone if he’s urging a strike. Now is not the time to be cutting the funding for such efforts.

And here is also an opportunity for unions throughout the U.S. and Europe to step up to help strikers in Iran just as they once supported Solidarity in Poland. Perhaps there is a way for western unions to raise strike funds that could be channeled to help strengthen a general strike. Barack Obama likes to quote Martin Luther King; this seems like a peaceful sort of protest that could help to paralyze the Iranian regime.

This is the type of help that can go on below the radar so to speak. I’m hoping that these are the kinds of assistance that we’re doing that we just can’t talk about publicly yet.

The “timid” label may soon be considered inaccurate as Obama’s motivations gain greater scrutiny. Obama’s view of all things middle east and muslim are incongruent with a secular uprising in Iran. Particularly one so powerful that so thoroughly warms the hearts of Americans. With it becoming clear that a large segement of the Iranian protest longs for a gesture of support from Obama, his fence sitting becomes less and less defensible on an itellectual level.

If he continues along this path his associations with the likes of Rashid Khalidi will begin to define him. The Obama rhetoric will be seperated from the Obama actions such as his endorsement of the Saudi peace plan, brow beating of Israel on settlements and now his curious obstinance on Iran

This report from the Washington Times:

According to the Cyrus News Agency, Tuesday morning 16 senior members of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps were arrested. “These commanders have been in contact with members of the Iranian army to join the people’s movement,” CNA reports. “Three of the commanders are veterans of Iran-Iraq war. They have been moved to an undisclosed location in East Tehran.” This report has not been confirmed by other sources. If true, it shows that the regime is losing the loyalty of some members of its control appartus, which is necessary if the opposition has any chance of achieving fundamental change. Mass rallies can easily be broken up and revolutions crushed, as we saw at Tiananmen Square in 1989. But if members of the armed forces, police and especially Revolutionary Guards decided to switch sides, then one can begin speaking of revolution.

If indeed significant numbers of Iran’s ‘control apparatus” are looking to side against the Mullahs, it might nit be easy to suppress. One wonders whether or not enough members of the military and police are willing to fire on protestors. It won’t be as easy as it was for the Chinese at Tiennemen Square as they were able to call upom Army Units of a different ethinic origin than the protestors.

While President Obama’s general take on the evil that is the rulling class of Iran, his response is tepid. Contrast his response with that of President George W. Bush made in 2006. From Flopping Aces

Iran is a nation held hostage by a small clerical elite that is isolating and repressing its people, and denying them basic liberties and human rights. The Iranian regime sponsors terrorists and is actively working to expand its influence in the region. (…) as we confront Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions, we’re also reaching out to the Iranian people to support their desire to be free; to build a free, democratic, and transparent society.

To support the Iranian people’s efforts to win their own freedom, my administration is requesting $75 million in emergency funds to support democracy in Iran. This is more than a fourfold increase over current levels of funding. These new funds will allow us to expand radio and television broadcasts into Iran (…) so Iranians can organize and challenge the repressive policies of the clerical regime(…) By supporting democratic change in Iran, we will hasten the day when the people of Iran can determine their own future and be free to choose their own leaders. Freedom in the Middle East requires freedom for the Iranian people, and America looks forward to the day when our nation can be the closest of friends with a free and democratic Iran.

Finally.

The stories of convictions, arrests and prosecutions seem to come out every day for all over the country. The author of this article, John Fund, has written a book on the subject, Stealing Elections: How Voter Fraud Threatens Our Democracy In support of his 2004 book, he penned an article the appeared in National Review in which he explained why voter fraud is more likely to occur from democrats:

In their book Dirty Little Secrets, Larry Sabato and co-author Glenn Simpson of the Wall Street Journal noted another factor in why Republican election fraud is less common. Republican base voters are middle-class and not easily induced to commit fraud, while “the pool of people who appear to be available and more vulnerable to an invitation to participate in vote fraud tend to lean Democratic.” Some liberal activists that Sabato and Simpson interviewed even partly justified fraudulent electoral behavior on the grounds that because the poor and dispossessed have so little political clout, “extraordinary measures (for example, stretching the absentee ballot or registration rules) are required to compensate.” Paul Herrison, director of the Center for American Politics at the University of Maryland, agrees that “most incidents of wide-scale voter fraud reportedly occur in inner cities, which are largely populated by minority groups.”

Democrats are far more skilled at encouraging poor people — who need money — to participate in shady vote-buying schemes. “I had no choice. I was hungry that day,” Thomas Felder told the Miami Herald in explaining why he illegally voted in a mayoral election. “You wanted the money, you were told who to vote for.” Sometimes it’s not just food that vote stealers are hungry for. A former Democratic congressman gave me this explanation of why voting irregularities more often crop up in his party’s back yard: “When many Republicans lose an election, they go back into what they call the private sector. When many Democrats lose an election, they lose power and money. They need to eat, and people will do an awful lot in order to eat.”

The asendancy of Barack Obama has its roots in organizing for ACORN. There should be no doubt that Obama is well aware of their shady, behind the scenes operations. Coupled with the immediate naming of ACORN to “assist” with US Census taking next year by the Obama administration, facts seemlessly point to a new Democrat Party way to perpetuate fraud on America.

The Mets are treating pitchers like disposable free moves in your Yahoo league. After today’s performance by Oliver Perez, they should have demoted him to the bullpen and named Fossum to start in his place. Intead they put Fossum on the scrap heap for the waiver vultures to feed upon.

The recent disturbing comments by openly gay entertainment blogger, Perez Hilton against Miss California - and all his cheerleaders – are indicating a chilling trend in American discourse. As MSM outlets are enabling Hilton and his supporters, we are endanger of allowing a topic to be redifined in a manner that defies logic. If gay marraige advocates are allowed to now define disagreement this way, it will give rise new almost violent ways at debating social policy.

With a significant number of Americans being opposed to gay marraige, resistance and disagreement with it should be politely accepted. Simply, one can be opposed to gay marraige without being called obscene terms.

It is Perez Hilton and his supporters whom should be condemned. Miss California Carrie Prejean has demonstrated class and grace. The incivility and potential danger of the gay marraige advocacy movement has been unmasked.

We need to be able to say that there are good people on both sides of this issue. Right now we cannot.
