A life long GOP conservative, this high school teacher has departed from his party roots and takes issue with the Florida GOP's legislative agenda on education.

Charlie Crist’s noon veto today of the GOP driven education reform bill in Florida is a teachable moment. Going along with the hyper-conseravtive elements of the party isn’t always the right thing to do. It wasn’t here. Crist’s veto today saved the party that cast him aside for a media darling whom is proving to be nothing more than a tool of a former govenor with a questionable agenda.

Marco Rubio never said why SB 6 was right for Florida- or any other state for that matter. He just has continued to ride the tsunami of justifiable rage at continuing Democrat confiscation of our nation. The bill he supported was unfunded, unexplained and largely left to still unhired bureaucrats on details But Rubio, nor any GOP leader in Florida’s legislature, never saw the raw hypocrisy of their folly.

What they acheived was so stunningly parallel to that which they had so recently condemned. SB 6′s passage was a virtual mirror image of Democrats’ national takeover of our health care. So alarming was the mirror, one easily wonders when any of it’s sponsors would have a Sir Alec Guinness moment of the River Kwai.

Predictably, GOP partisan calls of righteous contempt were aimed at Charlie Crist today. It was all an attempt to save his GOP senate bid you see. Unlike lathered up conservatives, Crist has a job to do as govenor of the nation’s fourth largest state.

Govenor Crist has now twice demonstrated he would do what he felt was right for his state without regard for political consequences. He continues to maintain that it was the right thing to do accept stimulus money for his financially unstable state at. Today he did not choose politcal expediency to curry favor with critics. He listened to people on multiple sides of an issue and made the decision felt was in the best interest of his state.

That’s judgement, leadership and courage. Marco Rubio’s rise is similar to that of Barack Obama, his celebrity largely media driven. Charlie Crist’s career now is looking like that of John McCain’s in comparison. Unlike Obama’s Illinois congressional record, McCain and now Crist have had to make tough calls. It’s what they were elected to do.

So maybe that independent maverick thing wasn’t so bad afterall.

Like the attack against the member of Bobby Jindal’s staff in New Orleans Friday night, the attack against against a Tea Party assembly in Boston will go unreported and is on film.

The unpresidented quote from Barack Obama during the campaign to bring a gun if they bring a knife was frightening enough of it’s own weight, but his followers are acting on his behalf now in the streets of America’s. Neither he nor the MSM media which shares his views hold accountable such despicable behavior. It is the Democrat Party of which they not only both serve, but also answer.

UPDATES: Two bloggers, Tennessee Conservative and The Hayride have been doing the best reporting on the New Orleans incident and the shadowy groups that were involved in the protest and perhaps the assault.

UPDATE (504 AM Thursday) Left Coast Rebel was video, audio and photos of groups there to distrupt Boston’s Tea Party.

The old campaign of Barack Obama transferred it’s mailing list to Organizing for America. Today Joe Biden sent out instructions for a letter to the editor campaign in suport of Obamacare. It includes a video of talking points that are to be included in the campaign. Here’s Biden’s note:

Friend –

Two weeks after it was signed into law, health insurance reform is still the talk of the town.

It’s for a good reason: This was a historic accomplishment. But it wasn’t easy. I remember what it’s like to be a senator and take a tough stand on an issue — confident that it’s the best thing for your constituents, but equally sure that special interests will pour buckets of money into attacking you for it.

Your senator, Bill Nelson, took that tough stand in supporting health reform. Now, we need to provide a line of defense money can’t buy: the voices of real constituents speaking out and showing their support.

That’s where you come in. Do you have three minutes to jot down a quick letter to your local newspaper? If you need ideas on what to say, you can watch a quick video Organizing for America put together about how reform will benefit Florida.

Believe me, senators and their staff read the letters page — because they know just how influential it can be. Your letter could make a tremendous difference.

In my conversations with my old colleagues, I made it clear that this White House was prepared to back them up — that no barrage of partisan attack ads would go unanswered. But to follow through, I’m going to need some help from folks like you.

This legislation will put Americans in control of their own health care, rein in insurance-company abuses, and give millions of Americans access to affordable health care for the first time.

Special interests know that in the coming months, all their lies about reform will be proven false. But that won’t stop them from inventing new ones and spreading attack ads.

It’s just the first step, but one letter from a constituent is worth a hundred paid advertisements. So please make sure your friends and neighbors understand the benefits this law will bring to ordinary Americans — take three minutes and write a paragraph or two now:

http://my.barackobama.com/SenateThank

Thanks,

Vice President Joe Biden

It’s astonishing that Democrats would be so obvious in their attempts to get their talking points out. Look for clear uniformity in the message and similar talking points.

John Podhoretz points out the high level of hypocrisy with Palin when compared to two other female govenors whom left their posts to join the Obama administration:

Of all the lines of argument concerning Sarah Palin’s resignation as governor of Alaska, surely there is none more disingenuous than the “she abandoned her post” line proffered today by Donny Deutsch on MSNBC and yesterday by Ruth Marcus in the Washington Post (whose article was entitled “Big Girls Don’t Quit,” another example of the bizarre double standard according to which it is acceptable to deride a 45 year-old Republican grandmother by calling her a “girl”). Strangely, neither of these commentators, nor anybody else for that matter, accused, say, Govs. Kathleen Sibelius of Kansas or Janet Napolitano of Arizona of “abandoning their posts” when they resigned to take cabinet jobs in the Obama administration. Nobody accused Rahm Emanuel of dissing his Chicagoland voters when he quit Congress weeks after winning reelection in November to become White House chief of staff. That these elected officials took other jobs in public service is meaningless; they all ran for full terms and decided that they wanted to do something else, so they went ahead and did something else. That’s fine, and so is Palin quitting for whatever reason she chose to quit. Being elected is not a prison sentence; just ask Barack Obama, who didn’t let his promise to Illinois voters that he would serve out a full term impede him from running for office; same with Hillary Clinton, for that matter.

Because its Sarah Palin, there’s always been an off-the-charts double standard. Even conservative commentators are caught up in the nonsense and are unable to think straight when it comes to Palin.

President Obama and his party insisted that America’s standing in the world had diminished under George Bush – that we’d lost our moral compass. However, it is Obama and ultimately his own party which bears the responsibility for their backing of the enemies of America in the Honduran affair. Says the NY Post this morning:

It took a week for President Obama to say something of substance against the violent repression of anti-government protesters in Iran. Fear of meddling, he said, was the reason for the delay.

Yet it took just hours for him to publicly denounce the removal of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, an ally of Venezuelan America-hater Hugo Chavez, by that nation’s army and demand his immediate reinstatement.

No fear of meddling this time.

That’s because Barack Obama’s foreign policy is very much a moment-to-moment affair, with no guiding principles.

Certainly, President George W. Bush would’ve understood that what has been portrayed as a “banana republic” military coup was nothing of the sort — that Zelaya’s ouster was meant to preserve Honduran democracy, not suppress it.

Zelaya’s removal, after all, came at the direct order of the Honduran Supreme Court and was approved by both the nation’s attorney general and its Congress.

Replacing Zelaya as president was not a military junta but the head of the Congress, a member of Zalaya’s own political party, which had declared him unfit for public office. And the replacement immediately called for new national elections and vowed to abide by the results.

Some coup.

In fact, the monumentally incompetent Zelaya had tried to follow in Chavez’s anti-democratic footsteps, unilaterally overturning Honduras’ constitution by staging an illegal referrendum to give cover to his plan to sidestep strict term limits and run for re-election indefinitely.

When the head of the army refused to cooperate, Zelaya fired him — a move the Supreme Court quickly declared illegal.

Sad to say, international opinion backed Obama and rallied behind Zelaya.

The UN General Assembly called for Zelaya’s reinstatement (which gives a pretty clear indication of just which side holds the high moral ground here).

And the Organization of American States — which just recently moved to readmit Castro’s Cuba after a 47-year suspension — threatened to suspend Honduras’ membership unless Zelaya is reinstated.

Bad enough that Obama doesn’t seem to know when taking sides constitutes irresponsible meddling — and when it doesn’t.

Even worse that when he does choose teams, he chooses the wrong one.

Is it that he just doesn’t understand what’s happening in Honduras or is he siding with Chavez and the Castro brothers? Either is unacceptable. As we’ve not heard anything from Obama or Hillary in the last few days, I hope they’ve realized their folly and are just waiting for the Hondurans to take care of themselves. We’ve not seen any high level meetings between Zelaya and US officials.

Still a better lesson to be learned is by the actions of the UN and OAS. It needs to be clear to to us now just how leftward leaning the organizations have become. Democrats owe an apology to John Bolton for taking them on to protect American interests and those of our allies. Talk about needing a reset button. It only took Obama and the Democrats 5 months to screw up foreign policy.

In a wide-ranging interview set to air Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, one of President Barack Obama’s most prominent Republican supporters says he is ‘concerned’ about the new president’s ambitious agenda and the high price tags accompanying many of Obama’s initiatives.

“I’m a little concerned,” former Secretary of State Colin Powell says. “I’m concerned at the number of programs that are being presented, the bills associated with these programs and the additional government that will be needed to execute them.”

Powell also seems to sound a note of warning to the young president.

“I think one of the cautions that has to be given to the president — and I’ve talked to some of his people about this — is that you can’t have so many things on the table that you can’t absorb it all. And we can’t pay for it all.”

who simply says to Powell:

SUCKERRRRRRRR!

For Powell from me:

No shock there.

The Associated Press, upon which most news outlets in the United States depend, appears to be slanting its reporting to support the pro-Chavez version of events in Honduras. Obama and Democrats cannot sustain a second example of turning their backs to democracy and freedom.

The AP tells us that much of the world has condemned the deposing of Manuel Zelaya. We also are told that Hugo Chavez, president of oil-rich Venezuela, has vowed to remove the new president of Honduras, Roberto Micheletti, and that U.S. president Barack Obama has calld the Micheletti government “illegal.”

Chavez stated that “If the oligarchies break the rules of the game…the people have the right to resistance and combat…we are with them.”

AP reports say little about the ardent support Chavez is giving the deposed Zelaya, and scant attention is given to those who are fearful of Chavez’s involvement in the internal politics of Honduras.

Aside from yesterday’s UN and OAS statements condemning the legal action of the Honduran government to remove Zelaya, the Obama administration has been silent. My hope is that they realized that they have fubared this and are looking for a way out. OL

Ledeen makes the clear parallel to Nazi Germany while outlining just how evil the Iranian regime is:

The brutality in Iran today foreshadows what the mullahs intend for us. It is what the world will look like if they prevail. Iran’s Middle East neighbors know this, and dread it (with the exception of Syria, which is playing Mussolini’s Italy to Khamenei’s Nazi Germany). Yet every American president from Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama has convinced himself that we can reach a workable, long-term modus vivendi with the Islamic Republic. They refused to see the mullahs’ Iran for what it is: a ruthless and determined enemy, at war with the United States.

The Iranian president is finding himself safe again and is calling out the American president in a way that should indicate there is no reason to seek accomodations with this barbaric regime and its allies Hamas and Hezbollah.

The mullahs’ war is unrelentingly and barbarically waged. When they organize demonstrations of hatred against the United States, and lead chants of “death to America,” they mean exactly that. It is not a slogan playing to a domestic audience (we have seen in recent days that the regime is enormously unpopular), but a statement of intent. They aim to kill us, humiliate us, and eventually dominate us. Just listen to President Ahmadinejad’s words to President Obama last Saturday:

You should know that if you continue (to criticize the repression) the response of the Iranian nation will be strong. . . . The response of the Iranian nation will be crushing. The response will cause remorse.

Such language is of a piece with stories alleging that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has ordered an all-out attack on American, British, French, and German targets wherever possible.

Meanwhile, the same forces deployed against us and our allies have taken to the streets to attack freedom-seeking Iranians. The same Revolutionary Guards who operate in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the usual foreign thugs and proxies (Der Spiegel reported five-thousand Hezbollah “fighters” had been sent into the streets of Tehran, and there are many other stories of sadistic Arabic speakers all over the country) have been beating, axing, shooting, stabbing, gassing, and clubbing unarmed peaceful protesters. As of late last week, Evin Prison in Tehran, long the regime’s Bastille, had run out of space for arrested citizens.

Ledeed offers some hope that the Iranian people still are fighting back but to be sure, American will one day be forced to deal with the regime. That day approaches.

While Obama remains historically timid and his standing July 4 invitation to the savage Iranian regime still open, Betsy Newmark makes some suggestions on ways to help the freedom seeking Iranians:

Here is an opportunity for the west to help out. First, outlets such as Radio Farda can be used to help spread the word because it is not likely that the Supreme Leader will leave Mousavi’s website alone if he’s urging a strike. Now is not the time to be cutting the funding for such efforts.

And here is also an opportunity for unions throughout the U.S. and Europe to step up to help strikers in Iran just as they once supported Solidarity in Poland. Perhaps there is a way for western unions to raise strike funds that could be channeled to help strengthen a general strike. Barack Obama likes to quote Martin Luther King; this seems like a peaceful sort of protest that could help to paralyze the Iranian regime.

This is the type of help that can go on below the radar so to speak. I’m hoping that these are the kinds of assistance that we’re doing that we just can’t talk about publicly yet.

The “timid” label may soon be considered inaccurate as Obama’s motivations gain greater scrutiny. Obama’s view of all things middle east and muslim are incongruent with a secular uprising in Iran. Particularly one so powerful that so thoroughly warms the hearts of Americans. With it becoming clear that a large segement of the Iranian protest longs for a gesture of support from Obama, his fence sitting becomes less and less defensible on an itellectual level.

If he continues along this path his associations with the likes of Rashid Khalidi will begin to define him. The Obama rhetoric will be seperated from the Obama actions such as his endorsement of the Saudi peace plan, brow beating of Israel on settlements and now his curious obstinance on Iran

Barack Obama’s mention of “seven million American Muslims” in the course of his rambling and complex six-thousand-word address to the Muslim world from Cairo symbolizes the whole message.

Study after study has found that demographic figure about three times too high. But Islamist organizations like the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Islamic Society of North America relentlessly promote the notion of seven or even ten million American Muslims. Obama’s accepting their version amounts to a giveaway, a cheap way to win the approbation of Islamists who so widely influence Muslim opinion.
