Dodgers get Oriole stopper George Sherrill

For 3B Josh Bell and pitcher Steve Johnson. I don’t believe that the Dodgers are done and know they really need a top of the rotation guy for the play-offs. This piece by Gerry Fraley speaks to this.

Fraley makes the excellent point in their match-up against the Cardinals at home where they were dominated by Cris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright and Joel Pineiro. Facing Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee will be no day at the beach either. But do the Dodgers want to move their young starters. Its what it will take.

POLITICS: The Subversive Left

Amanda Carpenter is linking this article in the NYTimes about a far left operative who’s going to sending threatening letters conservative doners.

Led by Tom Matzzie, a liberal political operative who has been involved with some prominent left-wing efforts in recent years, the newly formed nonprofit group, Accountable America, is planning to confront donors to conservative groups, hoping to create a chilling effect that will dry up contributions.

“We want to stop the Swift Boating before it gets off the ground,” said Mr. Matzzie, who described his effort as “going for the jugular.”

The warning letter is intended as a first step, alerting donors who might be considering giving to right-wing groups to a variety of potential dangers, including legal trouble, public exposure and watchdog groups digging through their lives.

Ed Morrissey tells us more about Matzzie:

This sounds like another one of Mattzie’s ill-considered ventures. He blew $12 million in funding for his anti-war group last year, Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, and showed nothing for his efforts. He also was involved in MoveOn’s preposterous General Betray-Us ad last September. The biggest surprise is that Mattzie still finds fools with money that need parting.

Only George Soros has that kind of money to throw around. But isn’t what he’s doing like kinda sorta illegal? How’s a visit by the FBI and a maybe a federal prosecutor sound, pal?

POLITICS: Republicans in Congress Taking Drilling Directly to the People

As reported in my previous link from Congressman John Campbell, Amanda Carpenter confirms this extroidinary improptu meeting that Republicans are having on the floor of the House chambers.

The CSPAN cameras have been turned off and the House Democrats are on their way home, but members of the GOP are staying late.

I’m getting reports from the Hill that House Republicans are gathering on the House floor, in the dark, with no microphones, to talk directly with taxpayers who are visiting the Capitol about gas prices.

Pelosi and her environmentalist pay masters have no intention of allowing more drilling. Today’s extroidinary events on the House floor cements the issue for Republicans. Look for them to exploit in a manner which could turn several seats back to republicans. John McCain has already signaled he is on board with off shore drilling with Obama being steadfastly against it.

This issue more than others may affect who McCain picks as VP. It may move Alaska Govenor Sarah Palin to the front. Palin is an extremely effective advocate for drilling and her presence could additional juice to a ticket which is already gaining some steam.
