Guest blogging at Townhall, Rep. John Flemming, MD (LA) joins the wave of those attempting to turn our system into socialized medicine. It is a model Americans know well. And they fear it. The American people do not want the devestation that the Obama plan will bring to their families. Here’s Flemings entire post:

Over the past few weeks, members of Congress and the American people have come to know the details of the Administration’s proposed health care plan. Call it what you like, this proposal is nothing more than government-run health care. As a physician, I am amazed at the number of bureaucrats in this House who are quick to claim a government-run health care plan is the reform this country needs. In response to this, I have offered a resolution that will offer members of Congress an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is, and urge their colleagues who vote for legislation creating a government-run health care plan to lead by example and enroll themselves in the same public plan.

Under the current draft of the Democrat health care legislation, members of Congress are curiously exempt from the government-run health care option, keeping their existing health plans and services on Capitol Hill. If Members of Congress believe so strongly that government-run health care is the best solution for hard working American families, I think it only fitting that Americans see them lead the way. Public servants should always be accountable and responsible for what they are advocating, and I challenge the American people to demand this from their representatives.

You really didn’t think that they were going to play by the rules they assert on you, did you?

Byron York of the Washington Examiner has been out front on Obama’s strong-armed tactics against the Inspector General of AmeriCorps. Today, Rep. Dan Issa sent a letter to WH Counsel Gregory Craig:

In order to dispel allegations that the removal of Mr. Walpin was the product of any inappropriate political motivation, please provide responses to the following by June 26:

1. A full and complete explanation of the White House’s reason for terminating Mr. Walpin;

2. A full and complete explanation of whom the White House consulted in order to evaluate the performance of Mr. Walpin;

3. Given the White House considered Mr. Walpin’s conduct as CNCS IG so unprofessional as to warrant his removal, please provide a full and complete explanation of why the White House gave him the option of resigning; and,

4. A full and complete explanation of why the White House decided to effectuate Mr. Walpin’s removal through an ultimatum delivered over the phone.

With GOP pols from both houses of Congress speaking out, it signals that Democrats are not going to be able to sit on their hands. As York asks today, will this be stonewalled? The obvious comparrison is Travelgate. Yet that Clinton debacle did not involve clear congressional oversite and a statute that was sponsored by the President himself. Clear legal issues are at hand.

Another larger issue is at work and that is the use of AmeriCorps workers by Democrats for party building. Its clear that this is what Kevin Johnson was doing in Sacremento, and its something the Obama administration quietly wants to do anyhow by getting the American taxpayer to pay for Democrat Party infrastructure. They’d love be able to hire college kids under the umbrella of AmeriCorps and put them to work for Democrat Party affiliates much like is already being done with ACORN.

Shrewd:

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement in response to an article in today’s Politico that suggests Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has secretly signaled to rank-and-file House Democratic lawmakers that they should feel free to portray themselves publicly as pro-drilling if it helps them politically:
“My message to Democratic lawmakers is this: if you’re really for increased American energy production, then prove it by putting it in writing. Sign the discharge petitions House Republicans are circulating that will force votes on energy legislation Speaker Pelosi refuses to bring to the floor. And sign onto the American Energy Act, our ‘all of the above’ plan to increase conservation, innovation, and American energy production, instead of doing the Speaker’s bidding by voting against bringing it to a vote. If you aren’t willing to put it in writing, you’re fooling no one. You’re siding with the Speaker of the Drill-Nothing Congress and radical special interests that favor higher gas prices, at the expense of energy-strapped American families.”
“This cynical strategy is disgustingly dishonest. Without any real solutions to help Americans who are struggling with record-high gas prices, it appears the Democratic leadership has hit on a new plan: deceive. Deceive the press, deceive its members, and deceive the American people. Democratic members have a ‘pass’ from their leaders to talk about drilling at home, while the liberal Democratic leadership – which is beholden to special interests that want higher gas prices – plays ‘rope-a-dope’ back in Washington, ensuring there is no vote to help the American people before November. It’s cynical, dishonest, and wrong – and it won’t work.”

Allahpundit in HotAir responds swiftly:

I honestly don’t see what Pelosi has to lose by letting a vote come to the floor — or rather, I don’t see how she loses more by letting the vote happen now than by suppressing all attempts and letting the GOP bludgeon the Democrats with this issue all the way to November. If they agree to expand drilling, they can always undo it (at least in part) next year by sneaking the rollback into a more comprehensive energy package. The GOP will scream but the election will be long over and Obama, assuming he wins, will be enjoying a honeymoon period which the Dems can use to blunt Republican criticism. Making a stand now, when this is really the only weapon conservatives have to wield against them, seems stupid, unless the Dems expect the price of oil will drop sufficiently by next year that public pressure for drilling will dissipate and they won’t have to act at all. I’ll leave it to economists to determine whether that’s a reasonable expectation or not, but there are extraordinary yet plausible reasons to believe the price might actually skyrocket. In which case, I guess Pelosi figures they’ll jump off that bridge when they come to i

John Campbell (R), is a US Congressman from California’s 48th District. He has a blog on his official web site. He’s also posted on Townhall’s excellent blog page. Today Campbell writes of Speaker Pelosi’s continued efforts at blocking meaning action on drilling.

Congress has passed no meaningful energy legislation to move us towards lower gas prices and more American energy and now has recessed for a 5 week break. Republicans, including yours truly, wanted to speak more about that on the floor of the House this afternoon. The Pelosi majority took the unusual step of calling for immediate adjournment to prevent these speeches from going forward and turned off the cameras and microphones on the House floor.

It’s one thing to not allow a vote on more energy production. It’s another to not even allow people to speak about it. I and several dozen others are speaking on the House floor right now to a gallery full of cheering people to demand that Speaker Pelosi allow a vote on more American energy production. No TVs. No microphones.

You can turn off the lights, but you cannot silence the will of the American people.

Good for you, Congressman.
