This quote in a La Raza piece and her membership on a council will pose problems for Sotomayor:
Senate Republicans investigating Sonia Sotomayor’s record are zeroing in on a speech she delivered in 2001 in which she stated her hope that a “wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences,” including appreciation for Latin-American cuisine, “would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”
In some quarters this statement is considered racist. Her opinions have reflected such an opinion. Obama, democrats and the media will want to make her confirmation about her identity. It will be up to GOP senators of courage to engage Judge Sotomayor about her views and the conservative media to report.
A major story about the direction most Americans want to go is about to take place.
