I don’t live in Florida’s 2nd Congressional District. Its the one next to me, but a part of the state I know well and have great affection for. My birthplace of Panama City and the city I attended college of Tallahassee are within FLA 2. The residents of the area have been betrayed by it’s US congressman, Allen Boyd.
Boyd’s vote for Cap and Trade and his reversal on Obamacare demonstrated to his district that he is a Democrat loyalist first before anything else. He has received the ire of his constituents. Boyd may have benefited from timing as no established GOP politician had stepped forward to challenge him. But five great Americans have. Political novices all, yet each has their own story of success.
There are other candidates for Boyd’s seat with a few Green Party candidates and two running as independents. But my blogging focus will only be focusing on the five candidates who will be vying for the Republican nomination in the August 24 primary. You will find their links on the left. A debate among these candidates is scheduled for May 18th in Panama City.
Here’s a brief glimpse of the candidates:
Barbara Olschner is a Santa Rosa Beach attorney and former professional tennis player.
Eddie Hendry is a Tallahassee sales executive and Army veteran.
Dianne Berryhill is a Tallahassee business woman.
David Scholl is a Niceville retired Air Force officer and current pilot for Delta Airlines.
Steve Southerland is a Panama City funeral home owner.
If you are a blogger that’s covering the election, please let me know and I’ll link you here. I’ve already got a few that I’ve found.
