A life long GOP conservative, this high school teacher has departed from his party roots and takes issue with the Florida GOP's legislative agenda on education. Recent favorite topics involve Florida's controversial education reform bill SB 6, local efforts to defeat Allen Boyd (D) FLA 2nd and the Florida Senate race.

There are 40,000 Republicans of the 130,000 teachers among the Florida Education Association (FEA). I am one of those Republicans and I depart from by bretheren on SB 6. It’s a bad bill. It’s wrong on substance, intent and implementation.

With the respect to the later, there is no implementation in place. GOP attempts to cry “misinformation” and “lying” are sickeningly similar to Democrat assertions regarding Obamacare, but the muscle behind both is the same. They are both driven by false narratives, facts and choices.

Crist signaled some time ago that he would sign the bill and people like Jim Thrasher have been taunting him publically of that stance. But Crist has yet to sign the bill and has until Friday to do so – or to veto it.

Quite frankly, my party has long gotten education wrong as they have seen any associative legislation as a blood fued with unions. I have no idea whay the Florida GOP congress has decided to shove such a plan down the throats of all Floridians as they are currently doing. Perhaps in their arrogance, they feel as of they are wearing the same pair of shoes as do Washington Democrats and their disturbingly partisan President: They won, have a majority and we will do what we want just because we can.

As the conservative GOP darling, Marco Rubio has graced SB 6 with his blessing, he has given his opponent an opportunity to show that he is a man with better judgement. Rubio didn’t think the bill through and relied on his mentor, Jeb Bush, a man who has a record of a questionable agenda with respect to education.

While the conservatives that are currently worshiping at the altar of Marco likely loathe John McCain, it is McCain’s independence from GOP power brokers that Florida needs most right now. Charlie Crist is losing badly to Rubio now in their race for the GOP senate nod, and should know that he cannot win. He’s signaled that he may veto this bill and has until Friday to decide.

It an irony that couldn’t be made up, it may be that the much malligned Crist saves Florida Rpublicans from themselves. With Senate Bill 6 quickly becoming a tsunami of discontent around the state, it’s passing could cause a seismic shift in Florida politics which some GOP and many independents switching to the Democrat Party. For some of those 40,000 GOP teachers – a number that does not inclube members not affiliated – SB 6 can create countless one issue voters who no longer vote for Republicans.

From Robert Stacy McCain who marvelously uses The Godfather analogy:

The desire of leading Republicans to recover their power — their influence, their prestige in Washington — is perfectly understandable. Like Fredo, however, the Beltway GOP leadership is weak, stupid and cowardly, seeking to curry favor with an implacable enemy by disrespecting their own family.

By picking Crist 15 months ahead of the Florida Republican primary, John Cornyn and the NRSC showed disloyalty and disrespect to the GOP grassroots, effectively declaring to the Moe Green Democrats, “Yeah, Moe, we’ve learned our lesson. We can’t disrespect you. We’re your friends. Look, we’re going to nominate an Obama-loving, stimulus-endorsing sellout.”

In this scenario, the conservative base of the Republican Party is cast in the role of Michael Corleone. And that’s what the Not One Red Cent movement is about.

It’s not about Charlie Crist. It’s about respect.

While early polls show Crist comfortably ahead of Marco Rubio, its not over yet. Crist is popular with the press, but amongst grassroots conservative through Florida, he has problems. This is especially true in the GOP stronghold in the Panhandle. Rubio’s campaign has not really gotten off the ground yet, but he will. When he does its likely that establishment GOP like John McCain and Sarah Palin will be staying on the sidelines for the state’s republicans to fight it out.

From Ed Morrissey at Hot Air

Morrissey points to one congressional district where gloom and doom was predicted:

We heard a great deal about how MN-03 was a transitional district, and that Eric Paulsen was too conservative to win with its voters. Instead, Paulsen cruised to an easy victory despite his unapologetic embrace of conservative principles, especially on fiscal policy.

Captain Ed also points to what I am beginning to see as the double-fraud of the 2008 election. McCain desired to be seen as moderate republican.

Obviously, that didn’t help much in 2008, but part of the answer for that may be in the candidates fielded by the Republicans. John McCain did not identify with the conservative wing of the party at all until he needed them in 2008, for instance, although McCain has been a fiscal conservative during his Senate career. The GOP for the most part moved away from conservative principles in order to seem more moderate to voters, and got rewarded with a shellacking

This obviously failed. Interestingly, moderate GOP candidates – like Charlie Crist for the Florida senate – are finding some striking competition from more conservative candidates like Marco Rubio. Rubio has scored some impressive endorsements such as Mike Kuckabee and Jeb Bush, Jr. Its unlikely that the younger Bush would have taken such as stand without Dad’s blessing.

Still, the Rubio-Minnesota examples are providing ammo against GOP types who are saying the party needs to be more moderate and reach out to more groups. To use an Obamaism, this is a false choice. Witness the McCain defeat and the surge of true conservative candidates.

Two seperate op-eds appeared in the conservative outlet, Canadia Free Press minced no words in their headline: “Tyranny Watch: Obama Begins Process to Remove US Citizens Rights” and “The Birth of American Socialism.” Penned by Sher Zieve and Timothy Birdnow respectively, the two essays signal that the world sees what Americans refuses to come to grips with.

The American media, in their partisan zeal to defeat George Bush and elect a Democrat refused to do their job in telling America about Barack Obama. They were able to make the 2008 presidential election into an American Idol vote, thus giving an uininformed country a man subversive to its own ideals and empowering a Democrat Party who’s primary agenda has always been about placing its own interests first.

The conservative media and its like-minded colleagues in the blogosphere did indeed report on Obama and detailed the concerns that voters should have bee made aware of. While John McCain had to deal with a hit piece by the NY Times over an improper relationship with a lobbyist (the Times is facing a suit on this) and Sarah Palin endured the kind of scrutiny that came in the form of attacks, Obama was fawned over in ways that are an embarrassment to journalist.

The headlines in the Canadian publication shows just how accuarte the concerns the right had for Obama were. The frankness of the headlines also are indications that its even worse than we thought.

But that’s beside the point.

McCain cannot be that naive to not know the 9-11 terrorists did not come through Canada. Even Janet Napolitano apologized for saying so. Republicans are used to this sort of baby talk from McCain when he seems to be in the mood to make nice with the Dem leaning MSM. Maybe it makes sense that his daughter is becoming an operational arm of the DNC.

Meghan McCain continues to go after Republicans and others who supported her father in the last election. Why?

Is it because she’s hawking a book and a savvy publicist has told her that its a good way to get face time on national shows by GOP and Sarah Palin bashing? Or is it some strange risidual bitterness that her father privately tells his family that she’s parroting? Even if its something else its strange behavior for the daughter of a party’s previous presidential nomination.

At any rate, it sparks some buyers remorse in Republicans who chose McCain over the more conservative Mitt Romney. Was the McCain choice during the primaries similar to that of Bob Dole in that it was sort of his turn? McCain, like Dole, failed to really go on the offensive aginst Obama and his party. Were voters scared off by the medias fascination with Romney’s Mormon faith or overly influenced by the McCain-Mike Huckabee double team?

Nonetheless, its unlikely that conservatives will be swayed this time by similar demagoguery of GOP candidates as was done by McCain, Huckabee and the curious Palin bashing from many GOP corners. As for the later, folks should be reminded that the McCain campaign came to her.

The astonishing record of such failure, abuse of American traditions and lurch leftwards by Obama and his party is emboldening conservative voters in ways that the Bill Clinton never did. See Tea Parties and the revulsion of the left and its allies in the media. This revulsion, along with the sophmoric name calling that come from Democrats are signs of fear.

Powerlines John Hinderaker shares a conversation he had with a dinner with someone naive to the myth that green jobs can be both created and sustained.

At dinner on Friday night I was talking with an intelligent young woman who seemed shocked at my suggestion that it is a bad idea for the government to subsidize the creation of “green jobs.” Given that it was a dinner conversation, I couldn’t get much farther than the observation that “you cannot create wealth by subsidizing the inefficient production of energy.” I’m afraid that her dismay would be shared by many relatively well-informed people.

Hinderaker then linked to a timely collumn by Dominic Lawson in the London Times whom astutely compares the green jobs myth to sub prime loans.

Electoral bribes apart, there is a more serious misconception behind the idea that ploughing subsidies into the “green economy” is a sure-fire way of boosting domestic employment. At best it will move people from one economic activity to another..

Lawson details how our friends across the pond are dealing with much the same issues prompted by the hysterical advancement of junk science. With the opposite being true about scientific concensus as to man made climate change, its comforting to see that the public is starting to take note. A Rasmussen Report poll reveals now that only one in three Americans believe global warming is caused by man made activity.

The shift is certainly not as a result of any assistance from MSM or Democrat party sources. The environmental lobby buffet is one in which they feed. Nor from former President Bush or GOP candidate Sen. John McCain who both freely talked of global warming – the term now comveniently changed to climate change – as if it were part of public consciousness.

So why the change in awareness? Maybe those scientists who refused to go along with the cabal started making their voices heard. Often ridiculed and ostrasized by colleagues they often became outcasts, but they refused to go against clear factual evidence to the contrary. These are brave people of whom we should be thankful for.

From John Fund this morning, speaking of Blue Dog Democrats and Florida D Rep. Allen Boyd:

One example is in Florida where Rep. Allen Boyd, a leading Blue Dog Democrat from the Tallahassee area, is facing a primary challenge from Democratic state Sen. Al Lawson. “From my perspective, a Blue Dog is just a closet Republican,” Mr. Lawson said over the weekend, while calling himself someone who is “committed to being a true Democrat.” Mr. Lawson cited what he called Mr. Boyd’s “refusal to back the stimulus package” along with his 2005 dalliance with Social Security private accounts.

Mr. Lawson hopes to rally black voters in the district, noting that 22% of its population is African-American. But Mr. Boyd has weathered primary challenges before, and President Obama is almost certain to avoid getting involved in the race. Mr. Boyd has long since decided that his moderate record is a necessity in a district that John McCain last year won with 54% of the vote. Mr. Boyd isn’t alone: 48 other House Democrats — nearly a fifth of the Democratic caucus — sit in seats that didn’t vote for Barack Obama last fall.

Think Tea Parties for further evidence that Democrats are vulnerable. More from Jennifer Rubin yesterday afternoon who points to the quick turn of events for GOP fortunes in the Senate.

Republican members in the House are noticing and playing hardball by taking on Dem freshmen when they appear on the House floor.
